PRAGUE, March 10. /TASS/. Milos Zeman, the current President of the Czech Republic, has told his supporters that he will seek a second term in the election scheduled for 2018.
"I announce that I have decided to again run for the president of the Czech Republic," Zeman said.
Political scientists in Prague say Zeman has all chances to retain his seat. Opinion polls confirm that Zeman is one of the most popular Czech politicians. More than 50% of voters support him.
Zeman took office on March 8, 2013. His presidential term expires in a year. The next election of the Czech leader is scheduled for January 2018. Under the country’s constitution, the president may be re-elected for a second five-year term.
