Ukrainian prosecutors drop idea of questioning Yanukovich in Russia

Ukraine’s Prosecutor General’s Office launched eight criminal cases against Yanukovich, particularly accusing him of high treason and complicity in acts of aggression

KIEV, March 10. /TASS/. The Ukrainian prosecutors will not participate in questioning the country’s former president Viktor Yanukovich on Russia’s territory, Ruslan Kravchenko, a prosecutor of the Chief Military Prosecutor’s Office, told the 112 Ukraina TV channel on Thursday.

"Yanukovish should present himself in court in Ukraine to answer our questions. This is the only way. There will be no questionings in the presence of the Ukrainian Prosecutor General’s office staff," he said adding that he was not eligible to question Yanukovich on Russia’s territory.

Ukraine’s Prosecutor General Yuri Lutsenko earlier made a Facebook post publishing a response to his request received from the Russian Prosecutor General’s office, saying that the former Ukrainian president could be questioned in Russia in the presence of Ukrainian investigators.

Ukraine’s Prosecutor General’s Office launched eight criminal cases against Yanukovich, particularly accusing him of high treason and complicity in acts of aggression. Lutsenko announced earlier that the trial was planned to begin in March 2017.
