HNC to hold talks with ‘Cairo Platform" later on Friday

On Thursday, disagreements among the three opposition groups, present in Geneva, nearly disrupted the welcoming ceremony relaunching intra-Syrian talks

GENEVA, February 24. /TASS/. Syrian opposition’s High Negotiations Committee (HNC) will hold consultations with members of the so-called ‘Cairo Platform’, Naser al-Hariri, head of the HNC delegation, told reporters on Friday.

"We are planning to meet with the ‘Cairo group’," he said after an internal meeting of the Riyadh-backed umbrella group (HNC) in the Crown Plaza hotel.

On Thursday, disagreements among the three opposition groups, present in Geneva, nearly disrupted the welcoming ceremony relaunching intra-Syrian talks. Shortly before the beginning of the ceremony, the HNC said they would not arrive at the event as they opposed the idea of three groups taking part in it separately. As a result, some representatives of the ‘Moscow’ and ‘Cairo Platforms’ were sitting at one table with HNC members.

Nevertheless, sources with the HNC delegation told TASS that a united negotiating team representing the Syrian opposition had not been formed yet.
