Ukraine stonewalls adoption of UNSC statement dedicated to Russia’s envoy Churkin

Vitaly Churkin died on February 20, a day before his 65th birthday

MOSCOW, February 21. /TASS/. Kiev has blocked the adoption of a statement by the chair of the UN Security Council devoted to Russia’s Permanent Representative to the UN Vitaly Churkin, who died on Monday, Foreign Ministry’s spokeswoman Maria Zakharova wrote on Facebook

"This is the essence of the current Ukrainian authorities: they cannot do anything good, they only spoil everything, even for themselves," Zakharova said.

Vitaly Churkin passed away on February 20, a day before his 65th birthday. He had been Russia’s UN ambassador since April 8, 2006, representing the country in the United Nations Security Council. According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, the ambassador died at his place of work.

Churkin was born in Moscow on February 21, 1952 into the family of an aviation design engineer. He has been Russia’s Ambassador to the United Nations since April 8, 2006.
