KUWAIT CITY, February 19. /TASS/. Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi has announced the beginning of the offensive against the positions of the Islamic State terrorist group (IS, outlawed in Russia) in west Mosul, his office reported on Sunday.
The primary task is to liberate civilians from the IS terrorists, al-Abadi said.
The UN reported more than 750,000 civilians seized by terrorists east of Mosul. The ground operation to recapture Iraq’s second biggest city began on October 17, 2016.
Western Mosul was announced liberated from IS on January 24.
