BONN, February, 17. /TASS/. The situation in Syria remains tense, so it is necessary to continue promoting the political process with support from Russia, German Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel said at Friday’s press conference with his French counterpart Jean-Marc Ayrault in Bonn.

"The ceasefire in Syria is fragile, and the humanitarian situation is catastrophic," he stressed.

According to the diplomat, it is necessary to promote political process.

"It is important that Russia supports this process," the foreign minister stated. He also called on Moscow to use its influence with Syria’s authorities since Gabriel believes that Damascus "cannot hold serious talks."

"It has become quite obvious that everyone here wants a political decision, because a military solution will not bring about peace," he added. "We have a long way to go, but everyone has expressed their willingness to go this way.".
