Steinmeier declines to name country he plans to visit first as German president

When asked if he was going to visit Russia, Steinmeier said that "at the moment I can’t say which countries I will visit" adding there was a tradition to visit France first

BERLIN, February 13. /TASS/. Frank-Walter Steinmeier said in an interview with German ARD TV channel that he was not ready to say yet which country he would visit first after being elected President of Germany on Sunday.

When asked if he was going to visit Russia, Steinmeier said that "at the moment I can’t say which countries I will visit" adding there was a tradition to visit France first.

Earlier on Sunday Russian President Vladimir Putin sent his message of greetings to Steinmeier inviting him to visit Russia at any time convenient for him.

Steinmeier will enter office as German president on March 19.
