It was earlier reported that nine people were killed in the crash.
Forty-eight people were hospitalized, some of them in a serious condition, the police said.
A truck has crashed into the crowd at the Christmas market in the central part of West Berlin ― on Breitscheidplatz near the Kurfurstendamm street. The incident occurred at 8:20pm. The truck drove around 80 meters through the market.
The police preliminarily classified the incident as "an attack," but Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere admitted that a terrorist attack is not ruled out.
