Russia’s UN envoy says 110,000 civilians evacuated from eastern Aleppo

UNITED NATIONS, December 13. /TASS/. About 110,000 civilians have been evacuated from Aleppo’s eastern districts held by militants since the beginning of the operation to recapture that Syrian city, Russia’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Vitaly Churkin, told a meeting of the UN Security Council on Tuesday.

According to Churkin, "7,796 civilians, including 3,946 children, have been evacuated" from Aleppo’s neighborhoods controlled by militants over the past 24 hours with the assistance of the Russian Center for the reconciliation of the warring parties. Besides, 375 gunmen laid down arms moving to the western part of the city, the diplomat noted.

"About 110,000 civilians, including 44,367 children, have been evacuated since the beginning of the operation. Over 7,000 residents returned to their homes in the liberated neighborhoods from the city’s western districts," Churkin said.

He added that three humanitarian actions had been held in Aleppo over the past 24 hours, with 3.5 tonnes of essential goods delivered to the area.
