BEIRUT, December 13. /TASS/. The Syrian army is close to completing the operation of liberating Aleppo, Al Ekhbariya TV channel reported on Tuesday.
Government forces suppressed pockets of resistance near the Davvar al Salikhin square and Jisr al Khadja overpass.
Elite groups under commander Colonel Suheil al Hasan are pursuing the enemy in several parts of neighborhoods of Salah al Din and Al Sukkari in the south-east of Aleppo. Al Ekhbariya noted that the militants are doomed but still continue to open fire from their positions.
Residents of Aleppo are patiently waiting on the streets for an official announcement from Syrian Armed Forces’ commanders on the completion of the operation on eliminating armed groups in the eastern part of the city that has been launched two weeks ago. The TV channel reported earlier that people cheered when they learned that the Syrian army gained control over the large stronghold of militants in the neighborhood of Firdous. People thought that the fight for Aleppo is over and started congratulating each other on the reunification of the city, cheering for the success of the Syrian army.
On Monday, Syrian forces seized seven neighborhoods in Aleppo’s south-east. Syrian servicemen managed to evacuate 3,500 people from there. Civilians fled dangerous areas through humanitarian corridors in Beb Neyrab, Al Aziza and Qadi Asqar square. They were taken by buses to temporary accommodation centers, where they received medical assistance.
