43 ceasefire violations reported in Syria in past day ― Russian reconciliation center

A reconciliation agreement has been signed during the day with one more settlement in the Syrian province of Tartus

MOSCOW, December 12. /TASS/. A total of 43 ceasefire violations by illegal armed groups were reported during the day in Syria, most of them in the provinces of Aleppo and Damascus, the Russian Center for reconciliation of the warring parties in Syria said in its regular daily bulletin posted on the Russian Defense Ministry’s official website on Monday.

"During the day, as many as 43 episodes of shelling by armed groups were reported in Syria, including 20 in the province of Aleppo, 19 in the province of Damascus, two in the province of Hama, one in the province of Latakia, and one in the province of al-Quneitra," the center said. "In the province of Damascus, armed groups of the Jaysh al-Islam organization which affiliates itself with the opposition shelled from mortars and firearms the settlements of Jobar (three times), Meydaa, Buzayna and Kafer Batna, a motor road near the settlement of Hawsh al-Faddaliya and a farm near the settlement of Harasta. In the province of Latakia, Ahrar al-Sham armed groups conducted mortar fire at positions of Syrian government troops near Abu Ali Mount."

According to the Russian center, armed groups of the Free Syrian Army shelled from mortars Aleppo’s districts of Art-Sabah, Furqan and Salah al-Din. Armed groups of the terrorist organization Jabhat Fatah al-Sham (formerly known as Jabhat al-Nusra, banned in Russia) shelled from multiple missile launcher systems, mortars and firearms Aleppo’s districts of Sheikh Said (twice), Dahiya al-Assad, Binyamin, Jamaiya Faht (twice), Ramusi (twice), Amri, al-Maqamat (twice), Jamariya Kharab al-Zahraa, Tariq Gasan, Ashrafiye and Tanbud, the Al-Assad military academy and a watermelon market.

"In the province of Damascus, terrorists shelled the settlements of Hawsh Nasri (twice), Arbil (twice), Jobar (three times), Bala al-Qadima, and Harasta, an area around Qusayr farm and the Al-Wafidin camp. In the province of al-Quneitra, terrorists shelled the settlement of Jaba. In the province of Hama, terrorists shelled the settlements of Suran and Maan," the center reported.

No air strikes were delivered by the Russian air group and the Syrian air force at armed opposition group which have declared cessation of hostilities and informed the Russian or US reconciliation centers about their locations, as follows from the bulletin.

"Talks on joining the regime of cessation of hostilities were continued with field commanders of illegal armed groups in the settlement of Muaddamiet al-Shih in the province of Damascus and armed opposition groups in the provinces of Homs, Hama, Aleppo and al-Quneitra. The number illegal armed groups that declared their commitment to the ceasefire terms remains unchanged ― 94," the center said.

Apart from that, according to the Russian center, three humanitarian operations were conducted during the day. Residents of Al-Aziziyah have received about one tonne of humanitarian cargo, about one tonne of humanitarian aid has reached the area of Sheikh Maqsood and about 1.5 tonnes went to the area of al-Mahalej.

Hot meals and living essentials distribution outlets are open for civilians leaving Aleppo’s neighborhoods controlled by illegal armed groups, as follows from the bulletin.

The Russian Defense Ministry declared the establishment of the reconciliation center on February 23. It is headquartered at the Hmeymim air base, Latakia province. The center was set up in line with agreements reached by Russia and the United States to facilitate the negotiations between the Syrian government and opposition and to organize humanitarian deliveries.
