Explosion in Cairo’s cathedral complex leaves 25 killed, 50 injured - television

Most victims are women and children

CAIRO, December 11. /TASS/. The explosion on Sunday at Cairo’s main Coptic Christian cathedral has killed 25 and left more than 50 injured, Sky News -Arabia reported on Sunday.

A mighty explosion went off in a church next to the Saint Mark’s Coptic Orthodox Cathedral. The reports say the explosive device was between 6 and 8 kilograms. Witnesses said a woman had brought the bomb inside the cathedral. As she left the building, the detonator went off - probably directed from a distance.

Most victims are women and children.

The injured were taken to nearby hospitals, and later the country’s defense authority ordered taking them all to the ministry’s hospitals.

This terrorist attack is the biggest in recent years in Egypt. On the New Year night in 2011, an explosive device went off at the entrance to a Coptic church in Alexandria, where 24 people died. Nobody has claimed responsibility for that terrorist attack.
