From Aleppo’s districts still controlled by the militants, with support of the Russian center for reconciliation of the warring parties in Syria have been taken more than 2,100 civilians

MOSCOW, December 11. /TASS/. The Syrian Armed Forces with the active support from the Russian Aerospace Forces during the past night repelled the Islamic State (outlawed in Russia) militants’ attempts to breakthrough into Palmyra, more than 300 militants were killed, press service of the Russian Defense Ministry said on Sunday.

"During the past night, with the active support from the Russian Aerospace Force, the Syrian governmental forces repelled all terrorist attacks on Palmyra. The attackers used vehicles with suicide bombers, armored vehicles and artillery."

The Russian aircraft delivered 64 strikes on positions, convoys and moving reserves of the militants.

"They destroyed 11 tanks and infantry fighting vehicles, 31 vehicles carrying large-caliber automatic guns, more than 300 militants," the ministry said.

Civilians escape the districts in east Aleppo

During the night to Sunday, from Aleppo’s districts still controlled by the militants, with support of the Russian center for reconciliation of the warring parties in Syria have been taken more than 2,100 civilians, and almost 300 militants laid arms, spokesman of the Russian Defense Ministry Major General Igor Konashenkov said.

"The Russian center for reconciliation of the warring parties in Syria continues assisting civilians in escaping the districts in east Aleppo, which are still controlled by the militants," he said. "During the night, from Aleppo’s districts still controlled by the militants, with support from the Russian center for reconciliation of the warring parties in Syria, have been taken 2,124 civilians, including 1,007 children. 291 militants laid arms and left for the western part of the city."

The spokesman added, the Russian center used humanitarian corridors in Karim-Hun and in al-Mahyar to provide for secure escape to safe districts of the city of another 8,000 civilians.
