VIENNA, December 6. /TASS/. Alexander Van der Bellen, an independent candidate and a former leader of the Green political party, won the presidential election in Austria, Interior Minister Wolfgang Sobotka told a news conference on Tuesday.

"I would like to congratulate with the victory our future president Alexander Van der Bellen," Sobotka said adding that Van der Bellen won the presidential election after securing 53.8% of the votes.
