PARIS, December 6. /TASS/. French Prime Minister Manuel Valls has submitted his resignation after a meeting with President Francois Hollande, BFM TV reported on Tuesday.
French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve has been appointed prime minister, the Elysee Palace said following Prime Minister Manuel Valls’s resignation.

On Monday, it became known that Valls would step down as he announced plans to run for president next year. Valls now intends to focus on his electoral campaign in view of the ruling Socialist Party’s primaries scheduled to be held in January ahead of the presidential elections.
Valls headed the French government from March 2014 when he replaced Jean-Marc Ayrault. Valls formed the government twice, his first cabinet formed in March 2014 was dissolved in August the same year due to disagreements between the prime minster and the ministers responsible for social and economic matters.
As for Bernard Cazeneuve, he is one of the most devoted supporters of the incumbent president Francois Hollande. He has occupied a number of important governmental positions since 2012, he was particularly responsible for the country’s budget. In April 2014, he was appointed interior minister. The terror attacks in Paris and Niece were carried out while Cazeneuve headed the interior ministry.
