Over 30 ceasefire violations reported in Syria in past day — Russian reconciliation center

Reconciliation agreements were signed during the day with representatives of two more settlements in the Syrian provinces of Damascus and Latakia

MOSCOW, November 25. /TASS/. A total of 34 ceasefire violations by illegal armed groups were reported during the day in Syria, the Russian Center for reconciliation of the warring parties in Syria said in its regular daily bulletin posted on the Russian Defense Ministry’s official website on Friday.

"During the day, as many as 34 instances of shelling by armed groups were reported in Syria, including 17 in the province of Aleppo, 12 in the province of Damascus, two in the province of Hama, two in the province of Latakia, and one in the province of al-Quneitra," the center said. "Armed groups which have declared joining the regime of cessation of hostilities opened mortar and gunfire at a number of settlements."

Thus, armed groups of the Free Syrian Army shelled the settlement of Al-Nayrab in the province of Aleppo and Aleppo’s district of al-Salhine. In the province of Damascus, armed groups of the Jaysh al-Islam organization which affiliates itself with the opposition shelled the settlement of al-Qasa, a highway near the settlement of Douma, and an area near the al-Abbayysin stadium in the settlement of Jobar.

In the province of Latakia, Ahrar al-Sham groups shelled the settlement of Mortlu and positions of government forces on Mount Abu Ali. Armed groups of the terrorist organizations Jabhat Fatah al-Sham (formerly known as Jabhat al-Nusra) and Islamic State (both outlawed in Russia) shelled from multiple missile launcher systems, artillery systems, mortars, anti-tank grenade launchers and firearms Aleppo’s districts of Amri, Art-Sabah, Aqyul, Leramon, Binyamin, 1070, Dahiya al-Assad, Ashrafiyah, Hai al-Ansari, Hai Zahra-Awadi, areas near a watermelon market, a gas plant and the Castello trade center.

In the province of Damascus, terrorists shelled the settlements of Arbin, Hawsh Nasri, Bakhariya, Dahiyat al-Assad and an electricity plant in the settlement of Jobar. In the province of Hama, terrorists shelled the settlement of Mardes and a heat plant in the settlement of Maharda. In the province of al-Quneitra, terrorists shelled the settlement of Jaba.

"No air strikes were delivered by the Russian air group and the Syrian air force at armed opposition group which have declared cessation of hostilities and informed the Russian or US reconciliation centers about their locations," the Russian center said.

Ceasefire agreements

Reconciliation agreements were signed during the day with representatives of two more settlements in the Syrian provinces of Damascus and Latakia, the Russian reconciliation center said.

"The number of settlements joining the reconciliation process has reached 978," the center said. "Talks on joining the regime of cessation of hostilities were continued with field commanders of armed groups in the provinces of Homs, Hama, Aleppo and al-Quneitra. The number illegal armed groups that declared their commitment to the ceasefire terms remains unchanged — 86."

Humanitarian aid

Apart from that, according to the Russian center, efforts are continued to relieve the humanitarian situation in Syria. Three humanitarian operations were conducted during the day. Thus, a total of 700 kilograms of humanitarian cargoes were delivered to Aleppo’s district of Sulaymaniya; three tonnes of medical equipment and medicines were delivered to Aleppo’s district of Mogambo; and about 1.5 tonnes of humanitarian cargoes were delivered to the settlement of al-Muallaqa in the province of Damascus.

Hot meals and living essentials distribution outlets are open for civilians leaving Aleppo’s neighborhoods controlled by illegal armed groups, as follows from the bulletin.

Apart from that, the Russian center said that 17 civilians had left Aleppo’s blocked districts during the day.

Reconciliation center

The Russian Defense Ministry declared the establishment of the reconciliation center on February 23. It is headquartered at the Hmeymim air base, Latakia province. The center was set up in line with agreements reached by Russia and the United States to facilitate the negotiations between the Syrian government and opposition and to organize humanitarian deliveries.
