38 ceasefire violations reported in Syria in 24 hours — Russian Defense Ministry

Twelve local civilians and six militants have left the city of Aleppo in the past 24 hours, the defense ministry said

MOSCOW, November 24. /TASS/. The Russian Center for reconciliation of the warring parties in Syria has reported 38 instances of shelling by illegal armed groups, including 18 incidents in the regions of Aleppo and Damascus, one in the Hama region and one in the Latakia region. Also, 12 local civilians and six militants have left the city of Aleppo in the past 24 hours, the Russian reconciliation center said in its daily news bulletin posted on the Russian Defense Ministry’s official website on Wednesday.

"Fighters of the illegal armed organization Free Syrian Army shelled the Aziziyah district in the city of Aleppo. In the Damascus province, Jaysh al-Islam armed units, reporting themselves to the opposition, shelled the settlements of Bloudan, Jobar (twice), Kafr-Batna, al-Qasa and Kenaker, a motorway near the settlement of Douma, in the Latakia province — the positions of government forces near Abu Ali mountain," the bulletin said.

Russia’s Aerospace Force and Syria’s Air Force have not been delivering strikes on opposition armed units that had announced the cessation of hostilities and reported their location to the Russian or US reconciliation centers.

Reconciliation of warring sides

"In the past 24 hours, a reconciliation agreement has been signed with representatives of one settlement in the Damascus province. The number of populated localities that joined the reconciliation process has increased to 972," the bulletin says.

Talks on joining the cessation of hostilities are ongoing with the field commanders of illegal armed units in the Damascus region and with groups of armed opposition in the regions of Homs, Hama, Aleppo and Quneitra.

"Sixteen application papers on the cessation of hostilities have been inked with leaders of armed units over the 24 hours. The number of armed groups that pledged their commitments to accepting and fulfilling the conditions of the cessation of hostilities has increased to 86," the document says.

Humanitarian aid to Syrians

"Over the past 24 hours, three humanitarian operations have been carried out," the document says. "In the Syrian Kadim district of the city of Aleppo, 1.5 tonne of humanitarian aid was distributed among civilians, about one tonne has been delivered to refugees from the city of Raqqa and about 300 kilos were handed to the Dar Russian compatriots’ foundation in Syria."

Special centers keep operating in the city of Aleppo, providing hot meals and daily necessities to civilians who are leaving the districts controlled by illegal armed groups.

The Russian Defense Ministry declared the establishment of the reconciliation center on February 23. It is headquartered at the Hmeimim air base, Latakia province. The center was set up in line with agreements reached by Russia and the United States to facilitate the negotiations between the Syrian government and opposition and to organize humanitarian deliveries.
