BELGRADE, October 24 /TASS/. Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic on Monday described some EU membership conditions as humiliating for Serbia.
- Serbia will not gain anything if it joins EU — diplomat
- Serbia set to continue its European path and cooperation with Russia — PM
- Serbian president thanks Russia for backing country’s interests
- Russia, Serbia confirm adherence to strategic partnership
- President Nicolic vows Serbia will never impose sanctions against Russia
- Russia appreciates Serbia’s refusal to join anti-Russian sanctions
"Some new chapters (in the negotiations dossier on the EU entrance - TASS) have been created for Serbia. Other candidate states did not have to meet those conditions, some of which are even humiliating," Nikolic told Slovenian Prime Minister Miro Cerar at a meeting on Monday without specifying what he meant.
"For our part, we are introducing European principles and values and are bringing the state in line with them. The government is working hard and has been quite successful under the circumstances in which it has to work. The respect (for Serbia) shown by the whole world confirms that," the Serbian president said.
Nikolic also noted that the European Union and its fundamental principles were in crisis.
Serbia gained its EU candidate state status in March 2012. The expected date of entry is 2020.
