Ceasefire in Syria violated 47 times in 24 hours — Russian reconciliation center

The number of populated localities that joined the reconciliation process has increased to 817, the Russian center said

MOSCOW, October 19. /TASS/. At least 47 ceasefire violations by illegal armed groups have been reported in the past 24 hours in Syria, including 23 breaches in the region of Aleppo, the Russian Сenter for reconciliation of the warring parties said in its daily news bulletin posted on the Russian Defense Ministry’s official website on Wednesday.

"Armed groups, which have announced joining the regime of cessation of hostilities, delivered fire from home-made multiple missile launcher systems, mortars and small arms on the settlement of Azizi in the province of Aleppo, Aleppo’s district of Hai al-Antari; in the Damascus province — on positions of government troops near the farm of Qusayr and the populated localities of Jobar and Douma; in the Latakia province — on the populated locality of Nahshebba and on Abu-Ali mountain," the document says.

In the Hama province, terrorists shelled the populated localities of Mardes (three times), Kaukab and a thermal power plant in the town of Mahardah. In the Daraa province, the district of al-Mahatta came under shelling.

Russia’s Aerospace Force and Syria’s Air Force have not delivered airstrikes at opposition armed units that had announced the cessation of hostilities and reported their location to the Russian or US reconciliation centers.

Reconciliation of warring parties

"In the past 24 hours, reconciliation agreements have been signed with four populated localities in the Latakia province. The number of populated localities that joined the reconciliation process has increased to 817," the document says.

Talks on joining the cessation of hostilities are underway with field commanders of illegal armed detachments in the settlement of Moadamyiet al-Shih in the Damascus province and with units of armed opposition in the provinces of Homs, Hama, Aleppo and Quneitra.

"The number of armed groups that pledged their commitments to accepting and fulfilling the conditions of the cessation of hostilities remained unchanged — 61," the reconciliation center said.

Aid deliveries

"A humanitarian event was held for residents of the city of Damascus at a boys’ school, educating the children of Syria’s fallen servicemen. A total of 1,000 tonnes of humanitarian aid was handed out during the event," the center said.

Special centers keep operating in the city of Aleppo, providing hot meals and daily necessities to civilians who are evacuating from the districts controlled by illegal armed groups.

The Russian Defense Ministry declared the establishment of the reconciliation center on February 23. It is headquartered at the Hmeymim air base, Latakia province. The center was set up in line with agreements reached by Russia and the United States to facilitate the negotiations between the Syrian government and opposition and to organize humanitarian deliveries.
