Blacklisted Russian MP allowed to visit Switzerland

Leonid Slutsky will attend the 135th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly and the 2nd Parliamentary Forum of the BRICS countries due to be held in the Swiss capital of Geneva

MOSCOW, October 19. /TASS/. Switzerland has granted permission for the chairman of Russia’s State Duma foreign affairs committee, Leonid Slutsky, who is on the EU sanctions list, to visit the country for attending the 135th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly and the 2nd Parliamentary Forum of the BRICS countries due to be held in the Swiss capital of Geneva, the Russian lower house of parliament told TASS on Wednesday.

"Switzerland’s embassy in Moscow has confirmed in the written form that MP Leonid Slutsky, blacklisted by the European Union, can enter (the country) without any restriction," the source said, adding Slutsky was due to head the State Duma’s delegations at the IPU session and the BRICS Parliamentary Forum [comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa].

MP Slutsky is planning to stay in Switzerland on October 23-27.
