Poll suggests nearly half of Donald Trump’s supporters describe Russia as ally

Trump has repeatedly said he’d like to "get along" with Russia if elected president

WASHINGTON, October 17. /TASS/. Nearly half of the supporters of US Republican Presidential Candidate Donald Trump see Russia as an ally, according to a new POLITICO/Morning Consult poll published on Monday.

The poll says that "49% of Donald Trump’s supporters describe Russia as an ally or a friendly nation." At the same time, only 19% of the supporters of his Democratic rival, Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said they viewed Russia favorably.

The poll also showed that 50% of democrats believed that Russia was trying to influence the 2016 election, while just 32% of Republicans agreed with that conclusion.

Trump has repeatedly said he’d like to "get along" with Russia if elected president.

According to the poll, the American electorate has turned deeply skeptical about the integrity of the nation's election apparatus, with 41% saying the November election could be "stolen" from Donald Trump due to voter fraud. Seventy-three percent of Republicans share this opinion, while just 17% of Democrats agree with the prospect of massive fraud at the ballot box.

"The results show that voters are increasingly losing confidence that votes around the country will be counted accurately on Election Day," said Kyle Dropp, Co-founder and Chief Research Officer at Morning Consult. "The sentiment especially rings true among Trump's supporters."

Forty-four percent of voters believe that the media is colluding with Hillary Clinton to throw the presidential race in her favor, with 72% of Republicans and 22% of Democrats among them.

The poll was conducted among 1,999 registered voters from October 13 to 15.
