50 ceasefire violations reported in Syria in past day — Russian Defense Ministry

Reconciliation agreements were signed during the day with representatives of four settlements in the Syrian province of Latakia

MOSCOW, October 8. /TASS/. A total of 50 ceasefire violations by illegal armed groups were reported during the day in Syria, including 23 — in the province of Aleppo, 16 — in the province of Damascus, seven — in the province of Hama, two — in the province of Homs, two — in the province of Daraa, and one — in the province of Latakia, the Russian Center for reconciliation of the warring parties said in its regular daily news bulletin posted on the Russian defense ministry’s website on Friday.

"Armed groups that have declared joining the regime of cessation of hostilities conducted fire from home-made multiple missile launcher systems, mortars and firearms at the settlement of Azizi (twice), positions of government forces near the Zahr al-Nayrab mount in the province of Aleppo and Aleppo’s district of al-Masharqa. In the province of Damascus, they shelled positions of government troops near height 612; the settlement of Daraa in the province of the same name; positions of government forces near the Abu Ali mount in the province of Latakia," the center said.

In the province of Aleppo, terrorists shelled the settlements of Braij al-Rih, Ansar (twice) and Al-Wiji, and Aleppo’s districts of Sheikh Maksoud, al-Khalidiya, Hai al-Antari, Arian, Ramusi, al-Maydam, checkpoint No 2 on Castello Road, the Castello trade center, positions of government troops in the districts of Ramusi, 1070 (four times) and a cement plant (twice).

In the province of Damascus, terrorist groups shelled the settlements of Hawsh-Nasri (twice), Hawsh al-Fara, Harasta (twice), Bala al-Kadim, Nashabiya, the Ibn al-Walid hospital in the settlement of Douma, the Ibn Sina hospital in the settlement of al-Rihan, the al-Abbasyin stadium, a textile factory and a secondary school in the settlement of Jobar.

In the province of Hama, shelling was conducted at the settlements of Krah, Skandriya, Tarfawi, a heat plant in the settlement of Maharda, positions of government troops near the settlements of Samrah, Maharda and a railway station in the settlement of Narb Nafsa. Terrorists shelled the settlements of Ard Jaburin (twice) in the province of Homs and Hirbat al-Gazala in the province of Daraa, as follows from the bulletin.

"No air strikes were delivered by the Russian air group and the Syrian air force at armed opposition group which have declared cessation of hostilities and informed the Russian or US reconciliation centers about their locations," the Russian reconciliation center said.

Reconciliation of warring parties

Reconciliation agreements were signed during the day with representatives of four settlements in the Syrian province of Latakia. The number of settlements joining the reconciliation process has reached 742, the Russian center said.

Talks on joining the regime of cessation of hostilities were continued with field commanders of armed opposition groups in the settlement of Muaddamiet al-Shih in the province of Damascus and commanders of armed opposition groups in the provinces of Homs, Aleppo and al-Quneitra, as follows from the bulletin.

The number of illegal armed groups that declared their commitment to the ceasefire terms remains unchanged — 69, the bulletin says.

Humanitarian assistance

A total of 27 tonnes of humanitarian cargoes provided by Armenia was delivered from the storehouse of the Russian reconciliation center to Aleppo’s airport al-Nayrab. Hot meals and living essentials distribution outlets are still open for civilians leaving Aleppo’s neighborhoods controlled by illegal armed groups, the center said.

Russian reconciliation center

The Russian Defense Ministry declared the establishment of the reconciliation center on February 23. It is headquartered at the Hmeymim air base, Latakia province. The center was set up in line with agreements reached by Russia and the United States to facilitate the negotiations between the Syrian government and opposition and to organize humanitarian deliveries.
