US citizen jailed for illegally crossing Russian border in Western Siberia

The US citizen was prohibited from crossing Russia’s border since he did not have a visa but anyway attempted to cross the state border by skirting the checkpoint

NOVOSIBIRSK, October 6. /TASS/. US citizen Julio Prieto will be tried in the Novosibirsk region, in West Siberia, for illegally crossing Russia’s state border, local prosecutors announced on Thursday.

The 29-year-old US national is currently in custody in the town of Karasuk, east of Novosibirsk, the press service said. The district deputy prosecutor has confirmed that an indictment against Prieto has been made.

Investigators say on September 14 Prieto arrived from Kazakhstan at the Pavlovka checkpoint of the Federal Security Service (FSB) border control service located in Karasuk, in the Novosibirsk region.
