UNITED NATIONS, September 20. /TASS/. Russia and the U.S. should guarantee observance of the ceasefire in Syria, which will help improve the humanitarian situation in the country, the EU High Commissioner for Foreign and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini, told reporters in New York on Monday as she commented on the situation in the war-torn Arab country.
She said the EU found it necessary that the ceasefire coordinated by the U.S. and Russia next week was kept in place and now that the U.S. and Russia had agreed on the ceasefire, it was important to guarantee its observance.
Mogherini also said foreign ministers of the 28 EU member-states would hold a meeting with a delegation of Syria’s High Negotiating Committee before the end of Monday in New York.
She said she had met with the Syrian oppositionists on Sunday.
