BEIRUT, September 18. /TASS/. The Syrian Foreign Ministry has sent an urgent message to the UN Security Council with a demand "to condemn the US aggression."
"The international community should oblige the US to never again repeat such attacks, to respect Syria’s sovereignty, its national and territorial integrity," the SANA news agency quoted the message as saying.
"The treacherous attack at the positions of the Syrian army on the Jebel-Sarda mountain, near the military aerodrome on the approaches to the city of Deir ez-Zor, was carried out on Saturday at 5pm. Five aircraft of US Air Force took part in the attack that lasted for an hour," the statement added.
The Syrian Foreign Ministry noted that "Syrian forces have bravely defended this line of defense from incessant attacks of armed groups over the last several years." However, this area has now been seized by militants from the Islamic State (IS) terrorist organization who took advantage of US airstrikes, the ministry added.
"All available information points to the fact that this aggressive attack was deliberate and planned by US in advance in the framework of the strategy aimed at continuing the war which terrorist groups are waging against the Syrian Arab army," the statement concluded.
