Four militants killed in special operations in Russia's Dagestan — source

No security officers were killed or wounded

MAKHACHKALA, September 7. /TASS/. Security officers have killed four militants in two special operations in Russia’s North Caucasus republic of Dagestan, a local law enforcement source told TASS on Wednesday.

"According to preliminary data, a total of four gunmen have been killed - one in Izberbash and three in Makhachkala. The man killed in Izberbash has been preliminarily identified as the leader of a local armed group Khalimbekov," the source said.

No security officers were killed or wounded.

Two special operations were conducted in Dagestan’s Izberbash and the capital Makhachkala on Wednesday morning. The counter-terrorism regime was declared in Izberbash at 6.00 a.m. and an hour later in the Kirovsky district of Makhachkala.

The private houses in both cities where the gunmen had been hiding were blocked. The officers suspect that the militants were linked to the killing of two traffic police officers in August on the outskirts of Izberbash.
