Russia-US-UN talks on Syria in Geneva to be held behind closed doors

UN official said that she could say nothing about the place and time of the meeting, adding that it is not the first event in this format

The venue and time of the Russia-US-UN trilateral meeting on Syria, scheduled for July 26 in Geneva has not been disclosed, the event will be held behind closed doors, UN Secretary-General special envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura’s spokesperson Jessie Shahin said on Monday.

UN Secretary-General's special envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura will hold talks with representatives of Russia and the United States within the framework of a trilateral meeting on Syria, she said. According to her, no news conference is planned.

Shahin said that she could say nothing about the place and time of the meeting, adding that it is not the first event in this format, as such meetings had taken place in the past - both "behind closed doors," she added.

Spokesman for the US Mission to the UN Office in Geneva Paul Patin has also declined to comment on the agenda of the meeting and name its venue and time, adding that no press event was planned. According to Patin, the US side will be represented at the talks by the US special envoy for Syria, Michael Ratney.

A trilateral meeting in the Russia-US-UN format on Syria will be held in Geneva on July 26. The Russian delegation will be represented by Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov, the UN will be represented by Staffan de Mistura. Gatilov said earlier that the Russian side hoped for progress in the intra-Syrian negotiations on the results of this meeting.
