ABU DHABI, July 24 /TASS/. Militants from the Islamic State terrorist group shot down a Syrian Air Force plane late on Saturday, the Qatar-based Al-Jazeera TV channel reported.
The plane fell down to the east of the provincial center of Hama (220 km away from Damascus) near the town of Salmiya. The pilot’s fate is unknown. According to the TV channel, anti-aircraft forces gunned the fighter jet down from the ground.
On March 13, another Syrian Air Force plane was downed when it was landing at a military airfield. Militants shot dead the pilot after he had ejected himself from the burning plane.
The government forces’ defensive line is located in Salmiya. The Islamic State militants have tried to approach the city inhabited by Ismailites many times. However, the Syrian army and the volunteers have repelled the attacks several times.
