Media: Over 90 people arrested in Ankara over involvement in coup attempt

Among those arrested is Brigadier General of the Turkish Air Force, reports Haberler news portal

ANKARA, July 18. /TASS/. At least 99 people involved in organizing the coup attempt in Turkey have been arrested in Ankara, Haberler news portal reported on Monday.

Among those arrested is Brigadier General of the Turkish Air Force Haqan Evrim.

Haberturk TV channel reported earlier today that 12 generals and one admiral were arrested in Turkey. 

According to the TV, the military servicemen were arrested on Sunday night by the decision of the Istanbul Court. They are charged with an "attempted coup", an "attempt on the president’s life" and "intended killing of people."

A group of insurgents attempted a coup in Turkey overnight to Saturday. Bombs were dropped on the parliament building and the presidential palace in Ankara. The country’s leadership later said that the coup was quashed. Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said that the situation is under the control of the official government.

According to latest reports, 290 people died and 1,440 more were injured, not including participants in the coup attempt. Over 6,000 people were arrested after a failed coup attempt.
