Death toll climbs to 265 in coup attempt

TUNIS, July 16. /TASS/. Death toll in Turkey’s military coup attempt has reached 265 and 1,440 more are wounded, Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said on Saturday, quoted by the AFP news agency.

The Turkish prime minister said that "at least 265 people were killed and 1,440 more wounded in clashes in Ankara and Istanbul, including 104 insurgents.".

On Friday night, a group of insurgents attempted a coup in Turkey. Major clashes erupted in Ankara and Istanbul. Bombs were dropped on the parliament building and the presidential palace in Ankara. On Saturday the country’s leadership said that the coup was quashed. Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said that the situation is under control of the official government.
