Man opens fire at German cinema, shot dead by police

BERLIN, June 23. /TASS/. Police in the German town of Viernheim have shot dead the armed and masked man who attacked a local cinema complex, the interior minister of the state of Hesse said on Thursday.

The gunman reportedly entered the Kinopolis complex, made some shots and tear-gassed the crowd. Local media said 25 to 50 people suffered from the exposure to tear gas.

It is still unclear if the attacker had a political or ideological motive or whether it was a robbery. DPA news agency said quoting police sources that it was unlikely an act of terrorism.
