Five ceasefire violations reported in Syria in past day — Russian defense ministry

A reconciliation agreement was signed with representatives of one settlement in the Syrian provinces of Aleppo

MOSCOW, June 18. /TASS/. The ceasefire regime has been generally observed in most of Syria’s provinces, with five violations reported in the past day in the province of Damascus, the Russian center for reconciliation of the warring parties in Syria said in its regular daily news bulletin posted on the Russian defense ministry’s website on Friday.

"Units of the Jaysh al-Islam group which affiliates itself with the opposition opened mortar fire at positions of Syrian government troops in the settmlements of Jobar, Haush al-Fara, Zamalka and twice in Jaur al-Basha in the province of Damascus," the center said. : No air strikes were delivered by the Russian air group and the Syrian air force at armed opposition group which have declared cessation of hostilities and referred their coordinates to the Russian or U.S. reconciliation centers."

The regime of silence was in force in the city of Aleppo till 24:00 local time on June 17, 2016 and is in force in the settlement of Darayya in the province of Damascus till 24:00 on June 18, 2016, as follows from the bulletin.

"Groups constituting the international terrorist organization Jabhat al-Nusra continue attempts to break down the regime of cessation of hostilities in the province of Aleppo. During the day, militants conducted fire from artillery systems and mortars at the settlement of Handrat and the al-Nayrab airport in the province of Aleppo, and at Aleppo’s districts of al-Khalidiya, Sheikh Maksoud, al-Zahra, and Salah al-Din," the bulletin said.

The settlements of Khakur-Takhtani and Qallaz in the province of Latakia, the settlements of Bleliye and Marj-Sultan in the province of Damascus, and the settlement of Jaba in the province of al-Quneitra also came under shelling during the day.

New reconciliation agreement signed

A reconciliation agreement was signed with representatives of one settlement in the Syrian provinces of Aleppo, the Russian center for reconciliation of the warring parties in Syria said.

Thus, the number of settlements joining the reconciliation process has reached 153, as follows from the bulletin.

Talks on joining the regime of cessation of hostilities were continued with field commanders of armed opposition groups in the provinces of Hama, Homs and Daraa.

"The number illegal armed groups that declared their commitment to the ceasefire terms remains unchanged - 61, the bulletin said.

Six tons of humanitarian aid delivered

Six tons of humanitarian cargoes were delivered to people living in Damascus, low-income families in the settlement of Neva in the Syria province of Homs and a children’s oncological center on Aleppo, the Russian center for reconciliation of the warring parties in Syria said.
A total of 17 tons of United Nations humanitarian cargoes, primarily food products and cereals, were delivered by a Russian Abakan Air plane to the Syrian city of Deir ez-Zor besieged by Islamic State terrorists, as follows from the bulletin.

A ceasefire regime brokered by Russia and the United States on February 22 officially came into effect in Syria at midnight Damascus time on February 27. This does not cover terrorist groups such as Islamic State and Jabhat al-Nusra, both outlawed in Russia, and other groups recognized as terrorist by the United Nations Security Council.

The Russian reconciliation center aims to assist armed groups in Syria in concluding ceasefire agreements, maintain the truce regime, control its observance and organize the delivery of humanitarian cargoes to civilians.
