Ukraine’s SBU says thwarts 15 terrorist attacks in France

The SBU says it stopped the shipment of weapons and explosives to France from Ukraine, preventing attacks planned on the eve of the Euro 2016 football championship

KIEV, June 6. /TASS/. Ukraine’s Security Service has prevented 15 terrorist attacks in France planned on the eve of the Euro 2016 football championship in the country, SBU chief Vasily Gritsak told reporters on Monday.

"A series of 15 terrorist attacks has been prevented," Gritsak said.

He said the SBU has stopped the shipment of weapons and explosives to France from Ukraine. The cargo, bought by a French citizen, contained five Kalashnikov rifles, two grenade launchers, 125 kg of TNT and 100 detonators.

The French national was detained on May 21 at a Yagodin checkpoint and is in a pre-trial detention center now, Gritsak added.

France’s authorities have officially confirmed the detention of the French national.

"We confirm that the French man was detained in Ukraine in late May. We maintain contact with Ukraine’s authorities on this issue," France's Foreign Ministry spokesman Roman Nadal said on Monday, giving no further details.
