KIEV, May 13. /TASS/. A veteran of the Great Patriotic War who was attacked by nationalists during the Victory Day celebrations on May 9 in eastern Ukraine has died, the Odessa-based news portal reported on Friday.
The 91-year-old woman, Lyobov Pechko, died the day after the attack when nationalists sprayed her with a Soviet-era green antiseptic known as "zelyonka." The incident occurred during the procession in Slavyansk, in the Donetsk region, marking the Soviet Union's Victory over Nazi Germany, the Information Center reported.
Pechko is a hero of the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945) who took part in liberating Belarus. She and some other veterans were doused with the green liquid when the nationalists attacked MP from the Opposition Bloc Natalya Korolevskaya, also throwing eggs and flour.
Some 5,000 people took part in the peaceful rally.
