Kyrgyzstan interested in closer cooperation with Afghanistan — Kyrgyz PM

DUSHANBE, May 12. /TASS/. Kyrgyzstan is interested in developing trade-and-economic cooperation with Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan’s Prime Minister Sooronbai Jeenbekov said on Thursday at a meeting with Afghanistan’s Chief Executive Adullah Abdullah.

"The sides discussed current issues of Kyrgyz-Afghan cooperation and noted the importance of the implementation of the CASA-1000 energy project and other projects in the area of transport communications," the press service of the Kyrgyz government said.

Zheenbekov arrived in Dushanbe on Wednesday to attend a launching ceremony of the CASA-1000 project which provides for electricity supplies from Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan to Afghanistan and Pakistan. It is planned to build an electricity transmission line several hundred kilometers long.

"Zheenbekov expressed gratitude to the Afghan government for its support to ethnic Kyrgyzs living in that country and invited an Afghan delegation to take part in the opening ceremony of the second World Nomad Games Kyrgyzstan will host in September 2016," the press service said.
