LATAKIA (Syria), May 5. /TASS/. About 7,000 fighters from more than 50 armed opposition formations have laid down their arms in the past two months and joined the truce regime in Syria, Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said on Thursday.
"These figures are not final as the reconciliation process is gaining momentum thanks to the difficult work of representatives of the Syrian authorities dangerous for their life. Apart from its important role in stabilizing the situation in Syria, it is a catalyst of talks in Geneva," the spokesman said.
Head of the Russian Center for the Syrian Ceasefire Sergey Kuralenko said last week that 52 armed formations with a total strength of 6,500 fighters had joined the truce regime.
