KIEV, April 25. /TASS/. Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has appointed Lieutenant General Igor Voronchenko as new commander of the Ukrainian Navy, the press service of the Ukrainian president reports on Monday.

Poroshenko said the decision was made after his consultations with the secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, the defense minister and the chief of the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

On April 15, he sacked the former naval commander, Sergey Gaiduk, who was appointed in March 2014, citing position of the society as well as shortcomings in his activity as the reason.
