GENEVA, April 20. /TASS/. The Hmeimim Syrian internal opposition group believes that the armed opposition will be defeated at Aleppo despite the maneuvers of the opposition High Negotiations Committee (HNC) at the Geneva talks, Hmeimim group leader and Secretary General of the National Conference Party Ilian Masaad has told TASS.
"I believe that the opposition [armed - TASS] will be defeated in Aleppo just like in Palmyra," he said. "They have only one way - to join the peace dialogue and hold effective negotiations."
He earlier described the HNC’s statement on a pause at the Geneva talks as "an attempt to improve the groups’ position on the ground."
Currently, the Syrian government troops continue their offensive towards the northern city of Aleppo.
