MOSCOW, April 14. /TASS/. Representatives of the so-called "Hmeimim Group" of the Syrian internal opposition headed by Ilyan Masaad confirmed their readiness for serious work at the intra-Syrian talks in Geneva for purposes of peace and stability in Syria, Russia's Foreign Ministry said on Thursday.
The statement was made at their meeting with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister, Special Presidential Representative for the Middle East and Africa Mikhail Bogdanov ahead of their visit to the Swiss capital for attending the intra-Syrian talks held under the UN auspices.
"During the meeting the sides exchanged opinions on the current situation in Syria with an accent on the search for a political solution to the crisis in that country, which the Syrians need to seek for on the basis of mutual consent and also they should join efforts in order to battle terrorism and to revive normal life within Syria as soon as possible," the Russian foreign ministry said. "Representatives of the ‘Hmeimim Group’ confirmed their readiness for serious work at the intra-Syrian talks in Geneva for purposes of peace and stability on the Syrian soil and for fulfilling Syrians’ aspirations for better future."
"The Hmeimim Group" or the "Group of Hmeimim" unites representatives of internal Syrian opposition. The group was established at the Russian air base Hmeimim in early March.
