Syrian diplomat says only terrorists remain in Daraa for now

Western countries and the opposition insist on delivering humanitarian aid to Daraa

DAMASCUS, April 12. /TASS/. The Syrian government has information that that only terrorists and their families remain in the city of Daraa besieged by the Syrian army while Western countries and the opposition insist on delivering humanitarian aid there, Syrian Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad told TASS on Tuesday.

"Daraa is very close to Damascus. The Syrian Foreign Ministry is being shelled from this region as well," Mekdad said. "There is no one there apart from armed persons but it is stated by some that there are civilians there. We established that there is no one in this region apart from IS (Islamic State terrorist organization banned in Russia) and Jebhat al-Nusra (terrorist group banned in Russia) and their families," he added.

However, if UN facilitates removal of terrorist groups from Daraa, "we will send humanitarian aid if there are civilians there," Mekdad concluded.
