Obama convening meeting of P5+1 group, Russia to be represented by ambassador

WASHINGTON, April 1. /TASS/. Russia’s ambassador to the US, Sergei Kislyak will represent the Russian side at a meeting of the P5+1 group, which US President Barack Obama convenes on Friday night, a well-informed source at the Russian embassy in Washington told TASS on Thursday.

The group comprising fiver permanent member-states of the UN Security Council and Germany conducted talks with Iran on its nuclear program. Their successful completion is viewed broadly as one of the biggest recent achievements of international diplomacy.

The meeting will take place on the sidelines of a nuclear security summit underway in Washington. The initiative to convene it came from Obama.

Respective country leaders are leading the US, French, British, and Chinese delegations at to the summit. The German delegation is led by the Defence Minister.

Russia is abstaining from the forum as it believes the meaningful agenda of contacts with the incumbent US Administration in the field of nuclear security has been exhausted.
