KIEV, March 29. /TASS/. The Ukrainian parliament (Verkhovna Rada) has voted Prosecutor-General Viktor Shokin out of office. The decision was approved by a 289 majority vote (in contrast to the required minimum of 226 votes).
Shokin was absent from parliament at the moment.
Ukrainian President Pyotr Poroshenko on February 16 asked Shokin to step down. On February 19 Shokin tendered his resignation and Poroshenko dispatched a relevant motion to parliament. Under Ukrainian legislation a final decision on the issue is the parliament’s competence.
