KALININGRAD, March 28. /TASS/. NATO fighters followed the plane of Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu over the Baltic Sea when he was on the way to the Kaliningrad region. Shoigu arrived in the region for an inspection on Monday.
The minister’s plane was flying over the neutral waters of the Baltic Sea with an escort of the Sukhoi Su-27 naval aviation fighters. NATO’s Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft were following them at a distance of some two kilometers, without approaching Shoigu’s plane.
According to earlier reports, the defense minister arrived in the Kaliningrad region to check the organization of combat training and progress of the military infrastructure construction in units stationed in the region.
The Defense Ministry said that Shoigu also planned to inspect the Chkalovsk military airfield that is undergoing reconstruction and check the training process organization in the Admiral F.F. Ushakov Baltic Naval Institute.
