Number of Syria ceasefire violations with heavy weapons use down — reconciliation center

In Latakia province, the armed units who consider themselves to belong to the Ahrar ash-Sham opposition group delivered mortar fire at the Sandran settlement

MOSCOW, March 23 /TASS/. The number of ceasefire violations involving the use of heavy weapons has been on decline in Syria in recent days, the Russian center for reconciliation of the warring sides in the territory of Syria has said in an information bulletin.

The document published at the Russian Defense Ministry website said that the leaderships of the Russian and American reconciliation centers had drawn the conclusion during regular telephone talks.

"The sides exchanged information on ceasefire violations in the territory of Syria. They discussed problems of sending international aid convoys to Damascus province. It was noted that the number of breaches involving the use of heavy weapons had gone down considerably," the Russian reconciliation center said.

The Center also clarified that the ceasefire regime had been violated 5 times in Latakia province and one in Homs. "In Latakia province, the armed units who consider themselves to belong to the Ahrar ash-Sham opposition group delivered mortar fire at the Sandran settlement from the Shamruran populated locality," the information bulletin said.

The Russian reconciliation center added that the government troops positions had come under artillery fire from the Free Syrian Army positions near the Roisit Risho settlement.

An Ahrar ash-Sham armed formation fired at government troops from small arms near the Tair-Maala populated locality.

"Russian Aerospace Forces and the Syrian Air Forces have delivered no air strikes at the opposition armed groups who have agreed to cease the hostilities and have informed the Russian or the American reconciliation center of their location," the information bulletin went on to say.

The number of armed formations that have accepted the truce terms remains unchanged at 43. The total number of settlements whose heads have agreed to accept the truce terms has been unchanged at 51, the bulletin said.

Preliminary truce agreements have been reached with the elders of two populated localities in Hama province. In addition to that, representatives of the Russian reconciliation center have held six consultations and negotiations with representatives of public, business and political circles in Damascus, Latakia and Deraa provinces over the past 24 hours.

"They discussed reconciliation problems and how to render humanitarian assistance to the population," the information bulletin said.
