Syrian forces clear part of highway to north of Palmyra from terrorists

Positions of IS terrorist group were destroyed on the El-Hayal and El-Tar heights near Palmyra

BEIRUT, March 18. /TASS/. The Syrian army supported by units of Shia group Hezbollah have cleared the large part of a highway connecting Deir ez-Zor and Palmyra from terrorists, Al Mayadeen TV channel reported on Friday.

According to Al Mayadeen, militants from the Islamist State (IS) terrorist organization banned in Russia operating along the Euphrates River were cut off from Islamists in Palmyra. Fighting continues on the outskirts of the ancient city. Eyewitnesses said that fighting turned very violent, and both sides are sustaining losses.

SANA information agency reported that positions of IS groups were destroyed on the El-Hayal and El-Tar heights near Palmyra. Government forces are pursing the enemy in Wadi-Zakkara and El-Barayat mountain gorges to the west of Palmyra, and airstrikes are delivered at retreating militants from helicopters.
