MOSCOW, March 5. /TASS/. The defense ministry of self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) has denied allegations of Ukraine’s State Border Guard Service of shelling the Maryinka control checkpoint.
Earlier, Kiev had announced the Maryinka checkpoint was closed due to "ceasefire violations." The border guard service said that on Saturday morning the checkpoint came under shelling from grenade launchers and a sniper rifle delivered from the village of Alexandrovka controlled by the DPR militias.
"Nothing can reach it either from small arms or from grenade launchers," the spokesman for the DPR defense ministry, Eduard Basurin, was quoted by the Donetsk news agency as saying.
"It is unreal. Perhaps, if we have changed the laws of physics and a bullet flies a three times’ distance while a mortar - a two times’ distance, then everything is possible," he said. "However, it is unreal physically.".
