First passenger train launched between Ukraine's self-proclaimed republics

The self-proclaimed Lugansk republic is ready to launch trains to Ukraine if Kiev lifts its transport blockade of Donbass

MOSCOW, March 1. /TASS/. The first passenger train operating between the self-proclaimed Lugansk and Donetsk people’s republics was launched on Tuesday, the LuganskInformCenter reported.

"This is the first train of the Lugansk People’s Republic sent with passengers," the republic’s infrastructure and transport minister, Alexander Chumachenko, told the agency adding that more trains may be launched if needed.

The self-proclaimed Lugansk republic is ready to launch trains to Ukraine if Kiev lifts its transport blockade of Donbass, the minister said. "If we were allowed to move through Debaltsevo (Ukraine-controlled territory) we would move in all the directions."

The train linking Lugansk republic’s capital and Yasinovataya in the Donetsk republic will operate on odd and even days, respectively. At first, the train will have four passenger cars.
