MAKHACHKALA, February 15. /TASS/. Two police officers were killed and two others were injured in a car explosion at a police post in southern Dagestan on Monday, the republic’s Interior Ministry has said.
The blast occurred at 9.05 a.m. local time (0600GMT) at a police post in the Derbentsky district when officers stopped a Priora car for checks. "As a result, two police officers were killed and two others were hospitalized with wounds," the ministry said.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
A source in Dagestan’s law enforcement agencies earlier told TASS the death toll in the blast has reached three. Police suspect that the blast was the act of a suicide bomber, he added.
"The remains of an unknown person have been also found, this is thought to be a suicide bomber," the source said.
