Ukrainian forces shell militias’ positions in Lugansk republic

In mid-January, the Contact Group on settling the crisis in Ukraine’s southeast backed the initiative on declaring ceasefire in Donbass seventh time since autumn 2014

MOSCOW, February 8. /TASS/. Kiev forces have shelled militias’ positions of the self-proclaimed Lugansk People’s Republic near the Kalinovo village from infantry combat vehicles, the LPR defense ministry has said.

The fire was opened from the direction of the Troitskoye village, the ministry told the LuganskInformCenter. At least 10 shells have been fired, but "no casualties or damage have been reported."

In mid-January, the Contact Group on settling the crisis in Ukraine’s southeast backed the initiative of Russia’s envoy to the Minsk talks Boris Gryzlov on declaring ceasefire. This is the seventh attempt since autumn 2014 to fully observe the ceasefire in Donbass.

The "silence regime" was introduced from midnight on January 14. However, the Ukrainian forces have repeatedly violated the ceasefire by opening fire from mortars and tank guns that Kiev had to withdraw under the Minsk peace deal signed in February 2015.
