De Mistura to attend UN Security Council meeting on Syria on February 5 — source

Another diplomatic source said that the consultations would dwell on the general situation in Syria and the interrupted inter-Syrian talks expected to resume on February 25

UNITED NATIONS, February 4 /TASS/. UN Special Envoy on Syria Staffan de Mistura will attend the United Nations Security Council meeting on Syria to be held behind the closed doors on February 5, a source at Russia’s Permanent Mission to United Nations told TASS on Thursday.

"The consultations, at which de Mistura will be present, will start at 10:00 [New York time and 18:00 Moscow time] tomorrow," Alexander Zaitsev, the press secretary of Russia’s Permanent Mission to UN, said.

Another diplomatic source said that the consultations would dwell on the general situation in Syria and the interrupted inter-Syrian talks expected to resume on February 25.

According to Staffan de Mistura, the inter-Syrian negotiations came to a halt in Geneva on Wednesday because the sides were too focussed on discussing procedural issues rather than on the solution of concrete tasks with an aim to alleviate the humanitarian suffering of the Syrian people.

The inter-Syrian talks are to resume in Geneva on February 25.
